You or your representatives are cordially invited to cover a press conference on Tuesday (13 June) at which The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) will announce the findings of a study on the implementation of Family-Friendly Employment Practices (FFEPs) in Hong Kong.

Hong Kong is well-known for its fast pace of life, and working professionals often find themselves juggling between their career and family, which can lead to a high level of stress. To ensure employees can balance their roles between work and family, the government has been actively promoting FFEPs in recent years. However, a study conducted by the Department of Psychology at EdUHK has found that more than 85% of the respondents considered such measures were ‘not very prevalent’ or ‘totally not prevalent’ in Hong Kong. There is also a gap between the expectations of employers and employees regarding FFEPs. 

Funded by the Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC), the study was conducted between February and December 2021, through a collection of 400 questionnaires from employees who have family care responsibilities. In-depth interviews were also conducted with 25 employers and managers on their views of the practices.

Speaking at the press conference will be Dr Henry Ho Chun-yip, Assistant Professor of the Department of Psychology at EdUHK; Dr Ferrick Chu Chung-man, Executive Director (Operations) of the EOC; and Ms Doris Tsui Ue-ting, Acting Head (Policy, Research and Training) of the EOC.
