Professor Jackie Lee received her Bachelor of Arts degree and Postgraduate Certificate in Education at The University of Hong Kong. After working at Ying Wa College as a secondary school teacher for several years, she furthered her studies in Australia. She obtained her Master of Education degree, Master of Arts degree and PhD in Linguistics at The University of New South Wales.

Professor Lee has extensive tertiary teaching experience. She has taught in associate degree, undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the areas of English grammar, the English language system, English language teaching pedagogy, academic writing, and English for specific purposes. Prior to joining The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK), Professor Lee worked at City University of Hong Kong and Hong Kong Baptist University. She is currently Associate Dean (Undergraduate Studies) of the Faculty of Humanities. Her earlier roles at EdUHK include Head and Associate Head of the Department of Linguistics and Modern Language Studies, Associate Head of the former Department of English, Programme Leader of the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Language Studies programme, and Postgraduate Diploma of Education Programmes Field Experience Coordinator and Immersion Coordinator. 

Professor Lee’s research focuses primarily on language and gender, English language education, textbook studies, teacher education and corpus-based grammar teaching. She has published extensively in prestigious journals, including Gender and Education, Journal of Education for Teaching, Linguistics and Education, Pedagogy, Culture and Society, Sexuality & Culture, Sex Roles, and World Englishes. She was a Visiting Scholar at Meijo University, Japan, in 2013 and 2017. Professor Lee has been active in obtaining various research grants, including the General Research Fund and knowledge transfer funds. Professor Lee is dedicated to education and has won various awards, including the 2020 Esperanto ‘Access to Language Education’ Award, the Silver Award at the International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva 2019, and the Faculty Teaching Award (2012/13). She has also served on various committees and panels of the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority, the Education Bureau and the Quality Assurance Council.
