Brunei Delegation Visits EdUHK

A delegation from the Ministry of Education of Brunei Darussalam and Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) visited The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) between 27 and 29 June 2024. This is the delegation’s first visit since a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between UBD and EdUHK on  13 May 2024, to deepen bilateral cooperation and explore further collaborative opportunities.

The delegation included Dr Eddy Fazlin Bin Haji  Amdan , Head of the Department of Special Education, and Ms Hajah Norsusilawati  Binti  Haji Mohd Tahir, Head of the Early Childhood Education Unit from Ministry of Education, Dr Hjh Hardimah Binti Haji Mohd Said , Dean of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Institute of Education and Dr Siti Norhedayah Haji Abdul Latif, Deputy Dean from UBD.

EdUHK President Professor Lee Chi-Kin, Vice President (Academic) Professor May Cheng May-hung, and Associate Vice President (Internationalisation) Professor Lo Sing-kai welcomed the delegation. During the meeting, both parties continued discussions initiated during the MoU signing, focusing on potential collaborations in teaching, learning,  research, and mutual benefits.

During the visit, the delegation from Brunei also held meetings with various academic departments at EdUHK, including the Centre for Learning, Teaching and Technology (LTTC), the Faculty of Education and Human Development, the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, the Department of Early Childhood Education (ECE), and the Department of Special Education and Counselling (SEC). The participants explored cooperating on digital learning environments, teacher training and curriculum development to enhance teaching practices, learning experiences and research. The delegation also toured the AI Education Lab in LTTC and the Future Classroom in the EdUHK library, to experience innovative teaching scenarios firsthand.

Since March this year, EdUHK has engaged in multiple exchanges with UBD and the ministry in the fields of early childhood and special education, sharing resources, knowledge, and experiences through joint seminars and workshops. On 28 June, ECE and SEC organised visits for the delegation to three kindergartens and three special education schools. These helped the delegates gain a deeper understanding of Hong Kong's early childhood education structure and curriculum, and the diverse practices in special education.

Maintaining and actively promoting this partnership represents a crucial step for EdUHK in implementing its internationalisation strategy and supporting educational development along the Belt and Road Initiative.
