The 7th International Conference on Chinese Classics Education at EdUHK
Over 150 experts and scholars from around the world gathered today (19 May) at The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) for the 7th International Conference on Chinese Classics Education.
Presided over by Ms Florence Hui, HKSAR Under Secretary for Home Affairs, Professor Lui Tai-lok, Vice President (Research and Development) of EdUHK, and Professor Tong Ho-kin, Acting Dean of Faculty of Humanities at EdUHK, the two-day conference is promoting traditional Chinese culture and humanities education. Experts and scholars will share their research findings and discuss the significance and teaching methods of the Chinese classics.
Jointly organised by the Department of Chinese Language Studies at EdUHK and the Department of Language and Literacy Education at the National Taichung University of Education, the conference’s other collaborators include (in alphabetical order) the Culture Association, the Chinese Culture Institute, the Hong Kong Confucian Association, Hong Kong Nang Yan College of Higher Education, the International Classic Global Education and Learning Foundation, New Asia Institute, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Baptist University and the University of Hong Kong.
Professor Si Chung-mou, Chairman of the Conference’s Preparatory Committee and Head of the Department of Chinese Language Studies at EdUHK said, "as Chinese language enters the world stage, it is opportune that we contemplate the topics of cultural inheritance promotion with a view to passing it on to our next generation, as well as enhancement of the understanding of Chinese culture around the world”.
Professor Si added, “Chinese classics are embodiments of abundant cultural connotations and a language style of eloquence and elegance. Through studying Chinese classics we are able to experience the eternal appeal of our outstanding Chinese culture. Our knowledge, manners and characters are further elevated as we learn about and reflect on our studies, cultivating in us a sense of family and social responsibility”.
Twenty-six scholars from Hong Kong, mainland China, Taiwan, Singapore, South Korea, and Thailand will present academic papers and keynote speeches at the event. The theoretical basis, pedagogy, critical thinking training, life education, materials and methods, practices, strategies, and sustainable development of classics education will be discussed.
