The 3rd Arts@School Award Presentation Ceremony cum Exhibition
The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) recently concluded a community art and education campaign entitled Arts@School that featured 20 artistic installations. An award presentation ceremony marking the campaign’s completion was held at Domain Mall today (22 October).
Supported by Po Leung Kuk (PLK) for the third consecutive year, the campaign brought together parents, teachers and students from 20 shortlisted primary and secondary schools to work with eight professional artists in the design of installations that created artistic atmospheres on campus. Awards for Artistic Excellence, Creativity, Pragmatism and Student Engagement were presented today. Artwork from the installations will be exhibited at Domain Mall until 25 October.
Inspired by religion, the community, nature, school life and even surrealism, the participants created artworks including wall-paintings, chairs, tables, lockers and paper sculptures. The participating artists included Ms Ko Bin-lin, Ms Yokky Wong Mei-han, Mr Travis Ying, Mr Uncle Tsang, Ms Helen Chan Hing-yi, Mr Bo Law, Ms Yuen So-ling and Mr Tang Chi-yin. Mr SK Lam, Founder and Creative Director of AllRightsReserved Limited, and Mr Christopher Law, Founder and Director of The Oval Partnership, were invited to serve as project consultants and members of the adjudication panel.
The awards were presented by the officiating guest of the award presentation ceremony, Mr Kevin Yeung Yun-hung, Under Secretary for Education. The Award for Artistic Excellence went to The Methodist Church Hong Kong Wesley College. Inspired by landmarks in the district, students from the College made reliefs using papier-mâché on old chairs. The Sha Tin Wai Dr Catherine F. Woo Memorial School won the Award for Creativity for beautiful paintings drawn on the walls and wooden chairs in its “Poets’ Corner”, representing the relationship between humanity and nature. The Award for Pragmatism went to Creative Primary School, at which students added decorations to human-shaped wooden boards in creating their “CPS Buddies”. PLK Yu Lee Mo Fan Memorial School won the Award for Student Engagement for the colourful tablecloths and chair covers students created to decorate the visual arts room.
At the award presentation ceremony, Professor John Lee Chi-kin, Vice President (Academic) of EdUHK, said that “focusing on art education, creativity and the concept of environmental protection, Arts@School encourages students to develop positive values and treasure their resources. The campaign also promotes EdUHK’s objective of art education”.
Dr Eleanor K.C. Kwok, Chairman of PLK, said that “it has been three years since the launch of Arts@School. Artists, parents, teachers and students worked well together to promote art on campus and achieve sustainable development. We look forward to more creative artworks in this campaign and a promising future for art development”.
