EdUHK Curriculum Innovation with a New Scholarship Programme Education Futures Diverse Talents

With the continuous development of society, the demand for versatile talents in various industries is increasing day by day, reflecting the requirement for talent to be specialised and diversified, possessing both talent and virtue. The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) announced today (October 21) an overview of the curriculum reform for the academic years 2025 to 2028, with the theme “Education Futures, Diverse Talents”. This initiative aims to continuously innovate while building upon the traditional strengths of EdUHK, equipping students with diverse competitiveness.

Starting from the 2025/26 cohort, all 13 existing five-year Bachelor of Education programmes will be revamped to become Double Degree programmes. By integrating non-education degrees with education-related bachelor's degrees, students will deepen their knowledge in existing educational disciplines while also acquiring a more diverse range of knowledge. This will enable them to impart a broader spectrum of knowledge to students when they become teachers in the future.

Students enrolled in the five-year Bachelor of Education double degree programmes will also participate in internships related to the non-education programmes to gain experience and broaden their perspectives. Some of the integrated programmes enable graduates to teach both primary and secondary school courses simultaneously, meeting the education sector's increasing demand for professional teachers.

Starting from the academic year 2025/26, the new programmes to be introduced include the following:

Four-year Undergraduate ProgrammesIntake no. (provisional)
Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Speech Pathology and Rehabilitation(Year 1 Entry Only)10 (for Year 1 Entry)
Bachelor of Arts  (Honours) in Digital Chinese Culture and Communication21 (for Year 1 Entry)
10 (for Senior Year Admission)
Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Personal Finance10 (for Year 1 Entry)
25 (for Senior Year Admission)

The Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Speech Pathology and Rehabilitation is EdUHK's first-ever undergraduate programme integrating speech pathology, rehabilitation and psychology. It trains language professionals in a cross-disciplinary manner to meet the evolving demands of global healthcare and rehabilitation.

The Bachelor of Arts  (Honours) Digital Chinese Culture and Communication trains students to become proficient in Chinese linguistics, language, culture, media, and digital literacy. This enables them to not only understand the depth of Chinese tradition but also to grasp an international perspective and a local viewpoint.

The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Personal Finance is the first-ever programme to provide an alternative to the conventional “corporate-centric” personal and family finance curriculum. It incorporates the latest developments in the global financial services sector, including fintech, risk management, wealth management, investment analysis, and green and sustainable finance.

In addition, some existing courses also incorporated new elements. The Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Sports Science and Coaching programme will introduce a new strand called “Digital Technology and Sports”, enabling students to gain in-depth knowledge of the application of sports science, coaching, and technology. Furthermore, details regarding professional recognition for the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Integrated Environmental Management programme, such as environmental impact assessment, environmental risk management, and environmental pollution studies, will be announced on the programme’s website by the end of 2024.

To attract more outstanding students to enrol on undergraduate programmes at EdUHK, the University will increase the total amount of entrance scholarships by 40% to nearly HK$ 25 million in the academic year 2025, including:

  • HKDSE “Star’ Scholarship Scheme”
    To reward outstanding performance of incoming DSE students. Based on the total number of "stars" achieved by new entrants in the recent Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination, each star earned will entitle the student to a scholarship of HK$5,000, with no limit;
  • Full Tuition Scholarship for Elite Athletes
    To reward qualified student-athletes who demonstrate outstanding performance in sports and excel in interviews, recipients will receive a one-off full tuition scholarship. This programme applies to both JUPAS and non-JUPAS applicants;
  • Programme Entrance Scholarship
    Those who achieve the highest admission score among the JUPAS entrants of specific programmes and meet specified selection criteria will receive a one-off HK$20,000 scholarship. This includes newly launched programmes such as the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Personal Finance and the Bachelor of Arts in Digital Chinese Culture and Communication.

EdUHK President Professor John Lee Chi-Kin noted that social development is rapid, and education must evolve in tandem. “As we look to the future, we believe that we need to focus more on promoting diverse development in the field of education, technology and talent development, as well as actively embracing innovative technologies, artificial intelligence, ethical values, sustainable development and other elements. Additionally, we aspire to cultivating deep collaborations with institutions and governments in the Greater Bay Area, mainland China and around the world, paving the way for education futures,” he said.

EdUHK Vice President (Academic) Professor May Cheng May-hung said, “Revamping the educational curriculum at EdUHK, optimising all Bachelor of Education programmes into double degree programmes, providing students with internship opportunities in primary and secondary schools, offering aspiring teachers the best quality education programme choices. Additionally, students are required to participate in internships in non-education degree programmes to gain other work experience, enhancing graduates' employment opportunities and competitiveness.”
