Survey Findings on Personal Styles of Cantonese Opera Artists

The Research Centre for Transmission of Cantonese Opera (RCTCO) of The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) will hold a seminar on 11 July (Sunday) to present the findings of an in-depth research on the “Development of Creativity and Personal Style of Cantonese Opera Artists” and to report the works and development of the RCTCO. You or your representatives are cordially invited to cover the occasion.

 

This research project was funded by the Research Grants Council and conducted by Professor Leung Bo-wah, the Director of the RCTCO. According to the findings, most respondents agreed that Cantonese opera artists should demonstrate their own performance style and characteristics, but their development was hindered by external factors, such as audience preferences, market competition and the environment. Professor Leung suggested allocating more resources to promote audience education to facilitate the sustainable development of this traditional heritage.

 

Some new generation artists will also be invited to share their views on the research and discuss the development of Cantonese opera in Hong Kong. Details are as below:
