APCLC Signs Collaboration Agreement with Nanshan District Education Bureau
The Innovative Leadership for STEAM Education forum, co-organised by the Asia Pacific Centre for Leadership and Change (APCLC) and the Department of Education Policy and Leadership (EPL) at The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK), the Education Bureau of Nanshan District, and the Education Bureau of Tianhe District, Guangzhou, was held in Shenzhen today (22 March). It was attended by over 300 researchers and school leaders from Hong Kong, Macao, and mainland China, in addition to over 35,000 online participants.
Ms Yang Jun, the Director of the Education Bureau of Nanshan District, opened the forum, saying, "We hope to further promote collaboration in innovation and development of education in the GBA, complement each other's strengths, and work together to create a new benchmark for global and regional development in education."
Dr Qian Haiyan, the Director of APCLC said, “It is the second forum co-organised by APCLC and Education Bureau of Nanshan District. Today we will witness the beginning of a new collaborative journey between APCLC and Nanshan.”
The APCLC and the Education Bureau of Nanshan District signed a collaboration agreement to further their combined research on leadership and improvement in schools. Four EdUHK scholars, namely Professor Allan Walker (Adjunct Chair Professor of International Educational Leadership and Co-Director of APCLC); Professor Sin Kuen Fung (Professor of the Department of Special Education and Counselling and Director of the Centre for Special Educational Needs and Inclusive Education); Dr Qian Haiyan (Associate Professor of EPL and Director of APCLC), and Dr Lu Jiafang (Associate Professor of EPL and Associate Director of APCLC) were invited by Nanshan to serve as 'Think Tank Experts'.
At the opening ceremony, Professor Allan Walker delivered a keynote speech entitled ‘System Leadership: Spanning to Share’, advocating the adoption of system leadership across the GBA to facilitate further resource-sharing and innovation. Mr Shi Yiqi, the Vice President of the Nanshan Academy of Educational Sciences, introduced Nanshan District’s latest macro policy plan and STEAM curriculum design in his keynote speech entitled ‘Practise STEM Education Concept & Cultivate All-round Innovative Talents’. The opening ceremony concluded with the release of the latest edition of Trading Places, a quarterly publication comprising a collection of articles written by and for school leaders across the GBA.
In the subsequent discussions, seven principals from Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Hong Kong shared their school innovative practices. Their talks showcased the cutting-edge GBA STEAM curriculum and their excellent leadership in promoting school innovation and future-oriented education.
After the half-day forum, all guests visited the SZMS Nanshan Innovation School and Shenzhen Yucai No.2 Middle School. At the two schools, principals from Hong Kong were able to observe the STEAM lessons and talk to students and teachers there.
