International Congress on Educational Futures 2024: Celebrating 30 Years of EdUHK and Advancing Educational Innovation
The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) is holding the International Congress on Educational Futures 2024 (ICEF 2024) between 23 and 25 April. The hybrid congress (online and onsite) aims to foster collaboration and inspire transformative change by bringing together experts and practitioners from various disciplines in local, national, regional and international organisations. It also provides a meaningful platform to reflect on past achievements and embark on collaborative efforts to shape the future of education.
The opening ceremony of ICEF 2024 took place at InnoCentre, Kowloon Tong, Hong Kong today (23 April 2024). It is one of the flagship events in celebrating EdUHK’s 30th anniversary, and the Congress was officiated by Professor John Lee Chi-Kin, EdUHK President and Chairperson of the Organising Committee of ICEF 2024, Ms Michelle Li Mei-sheung, Permanent Secretary for Education, Education Bureau, Ms Imma Ling Kit-sum EdUHK Council Treasurer, Mr He Jinhui Division Director of the Education, Science and Technology Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR; as well as the EdUHK senior management team, and representatives from Faculties, Departments, Centres and Academies.
ICEF 2024 showcases a diverse programme featuring five keynote speeches by internationally renowned scholars, six symposia, a Doctoral Student Consortium, and 18 paper presentations.
With both online and onsite participants, the Congress attracted more than 400 scholars, researchers, and educators from across the globe. It focuses on five key strands, reflecting the evolving landscape of education:
• International, Regional, and National Co-operation for Educational Development and Innovation
• Metaverse, AI, and STEAM Education
• New Humanities Education
• Values Education, Teacher Conduct and Well-being
• Educational Leadership and Curriculum Development for the Future
Ms Imma Ling said, “EdUHK is committed to nurturing outstanding and caring educators and professionals who contribute constructively to meeting societal needs, as well as ensuring the effective transfer of our high-quality research and scholarship. By embracing emerging technologies, we will leverage our rich educational heritage, traditional strengths and strong alumni network.”
Professor Lee said, “In organising ICEF 2024, our goal is creating a platform gathering esteemed experts in the education sector and various fields to experience significant advancements in technology as well as exchange insights, and where faculties and students can learn from.”
The Congress promises to be a transformative experience, fostering valuable connections and inspiring innovative approaches to educational development. Among the distinguished keynote speakers are experts in their respective fields, who will deliver symposia, panel discussions and paper presentations, enriching the collective knowledge of the participants. They are:
• Professor Phillip Dawson, Co-Director of the Centre for Research in Assessment and Digital Learning at Deakin University.
• Professor Huang Ronghuai, Co-Dean and Professor of the Smart Learning Institute at Beijing Normal University;
• Professor Hafdís Guðjónsdóttir, Professor Emerita at the School of Education, University of Iceland; and
• Professor Li Wei, Director and Dean of the UCL Institute of Education at University College London;
• Dr Sobhi Tawil, Director of Future of Learning and Innovation at UNESCO
