EdUHK’s Sharing Session on Projects in Celebration of Dr Tin Ka-ping's 100th Birthday

The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) today (28 June) held a sharing session on Projects in Celebration of Dr Tin Ka-ping's 100^th Birthday. Attending the session were Mr Tin Hing-sin, Chairman of the Board of the Tin Ka Ping Foundation (the Foundation), Mr Tai Hay-lap, Vice Chairman of the Board, Professor Cheng Yin-cheong, Advisory Board Chairman, Mr Tin Wing Sin and Dr Yuen Pong-yiu, Directors, and others.

Thanks to the generous donation of the Foundation, EdUHK has launched eight projects under the themes “Chinese Culture & Moral Education” and “Integration with the World’s Civilisations” since December 2017. The projects are in line with the Foundation’s mission to “improve the quality of education through the promotion of moral education, Chinese culture, and integration with the world’s civilisations, as a contribution to our country.”

Three projects have been launched under the “Chinese Culture & Moral Education” series. Organised by the Centre for Religious and Spirituality Education, the Department of Literature and Cultural Studies, and the School Partnership and Field Experience Office of EdUHK respectively, the projects promote the vision that education embodies the hopes of China, Chinese culture and traditional moral values. Through different events and platforms, the projects were launched to motivate local moral education in kindergartens, secondary schools and higher education institutions.

In the “Integration with World’s Civilisation” series, contributed by The Academy of Hong Kong Studies, the Department of Mathematics and Information Technology, the Department of Science and Environmental Studies, and the Student Affairs Office of EdUHK, five projects have been launched to broaden students’ horizons. It is the University’s hope that with Hong Kong society as the focal point, students will be given opportunities to reach out to their country and the world, and better understand the globalisation trend. To help young people adapt to rapid changes in science, information mobility and technological development, the University has highlighted STEM and STEAM education in two of the projects, among others.

Conveying his gratitude for the support of Dr Tin Ka-ping, EdUHK President Professor Stephen Cheung Yan-leung said, “Education is intended to nurture human minds and to cultivate the moral values of our next generation, so we have to promote students’ whole person development. The projects backed by Dr Tin emphasise morals and manners, as well as whole person development, which are must-have attributes for talent in the 21st century.”
