EdUHK’s Education Leadership Reaffirmed in Research Funding Exercises

In the latest Research Grants Council’s General Research Fund (GRF) and Early Career Scheme (ECS) funding exercises, The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) emerged first in terms of both the number of funded projects and amount awarded in the subject discipline of Education.

Of the EdUHK applications for funding from the GRF and ECS in 2018-19, 37 were successful, with HK$21.46 million in funding awarded, representing an increase of 17.4% compared to that of last year.

Together with the previously awarded projects, the University currently has 175 ongoing research projects, which have been awarded total funding of HK$105.83 million by the RGC and other funding bodies*. The projects cover a wide range of subject disciplines, including education, social sciences, psychology and linguistics, and humanities and arts, among others. Highlights of the RGC’s funding results are summarised as follows:

Of the 45 awarded projects in the subject discipline of Education under the GRF and ECS, 18 went to EdUHK, with total funding of over HK$10 million, representing more than 40% of the overall funding amount; EdUHK ranked first in both the number of funded projects and the level of funding in this area.
In the subject discipline of Psychology and Linguistics, EdUHK came second, together with HKU, in terms of number of funded projects under the GRF and ECS. The University also came second in terms of awarded amount.
In the Humanities and Social Sciences Panel under the ECS, EdUHK ranked second, along with HKU and HKBU, in terms of the number of funded projects and ranked third in terms of the amount awarded, receiving 16.93% of the total funding in the discipline.
In the subject discipline of Psychology and Linguistics under the ECS, EdUHK had five successful projects, which were awarded a total of HK$3.14 million, over 65% of the total funding awarded. EdUHK ranked first in terms of the number of funded projects and the amount awarded.
