EdUHK Flag Raising Ceremony For the National Security Education Day
In support of the National Security Education Day, The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) held the National Flag Raising Ceremony on its Tai Po campus this morning (15 April).
The Ceremony was attended by EdUHK Council members, President Professor John Lee Chi-Kin, the senior management, staff and students. Joining the ceremony were Mr Wang Jian, Head of Department of International Organizations and Conferences of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in the HKSAR (OCMFA); Mr Li Xiaoyang, First Secretary of Department of International Organizations and Conferences of the OCMFA; various Tai Po District Council Members, and secondary and primary school heads. The ceremony was attended by over 400 people.
During the Ceremony, the national, regional and university flags were raised by a team made up of EdUHK students.
Delivering his welcoming remarks, Professor Lee said, “The flag-raising ceremony on this significant day cultivates the sense of belonging towards country among teachers and students, as well as strengthens the recognition of national identity and fosters a sense of patriotism and love for Hong Kong SAR.”
“The University places great importance on the education of rule of law and national security. We will continue to enhance Chinese history and national education on different fronts, promote patriotism and ensure its continuity from generation to generation,” Professor Lee said.
EdUHK established the National Security and Legal Education Research Centre earlier this year, with the aim of strengthening the knowledge and understanding of national security and related laws in all sectors. The University conducts flag raising ceremonies each Monday and on important dates, including New Year’s Day, HKSAR Establishment Day, the National Day and the Academic Year Inauguration day.
