EdUHK Establishes Centre for Higher Education Leadership and Policy Studies

The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) held a ceremony today (1 March) to establish the Centre for Higher Education Leadership and Policy Studies (CHELPS).  The first of its kind in Hong Kong, CHELPS aims to enhance the learning environment in the Greater Bay Area, Greater China, Asia and the rest of the world, by fostering communication and collaboration in research, while connecting scholars and innovative practitioners.

Housed in the University's Academy for Applied Policy and Educational Futures, CHELPS is committed to conducting cutting-edge research, delivering high-quality teaching, and furthering academic development. It brings together experts in higher education leadership and policy, from various academic departments within the University. CHELPS will also offer a new Master of Arts in Global Higher Education programme, providing professional training for teachers and administrators of universities and colleges, researchers, and policymakers in local government and non-governmental institutions.

Executive leadership summer institutes and development programmes, for higher education workers at all levels, will also be held.

Led by distinguished scholars, Professor Bruce Macfarlane and Professor Anatoly Oleksiyenko, an exceptional team of researchers from Hong Kong, the Mainland, Europe, South Asia, and Africa has been formed. CHELPS Co-director and Dean of Faculty of Education and Human Development Professor Macfarlane remarked, “The global expansion of higher education means that there is an urgent need to better understand how we develop great leaders and also make the right policy choices informed by research data. In drawing on our international expertise and influence, we will create an important exchange of ideas and talent.”

Professor John Lee Chi-Kin, President of EdUHK said, “As a young and vibrant university, we are at the forefront of establishing a research hub that is essential for the dynamic higher education landscape of Hong Kong, the Greater Bay Area and mainland China. This centre will play a crucial role in advancing our global partnerships in higher education leadership and development.”
