Conference Day of “Learning and Teaching @EdUHK Festival 2018”
As part of its ongoing efforts to promote and enhance learning and teaching quality, The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) held a Conference Day of "Learning and Teaching @EdUHK Festival 2018" today (25 May) on its Tai Po campus.
Serving as a highlight among a series of activities, including open class observations, video showcase, poster board exhibition, under the theme of "Teaching Excellence in the Big Data Era" spanning from February to May this year, the Conference Day was well attended by over 100 academic and teaching staff members, postgraduate and undergraduate students, as well as local and overseas scholars.
Addressing the ceremony, Vice President (Academic) Professor John Lee Chi-kin said, “As the sole university with a primary focus on teacher education in Hong Kong, EdUHK is committed to promoting learning and teaching quality, a crucial part of the University’s Strategic Plan 2016-25. Bringing together experts and prestigious scholars in the field, the Conference Day provided a unique platform to exchange ideas and experiences related to the Festival's theme, with an aim to create a roadmap for future research projects and opportunities.
In addition to a number of sharing sessions, the Conference featured keynote speeches of Professor David Gibson, Curtin University, Australia, who shared his insights into the role of big data in supporting the learning and teaching of the higher education sector; and Professor Chiu Ming-ming, Chair Professor of Analytics and Diversity at EdUHK on how to use big data and small data to improve teaching.
The Conference Day also gathered 25 teaching teams from EdUHK and other local Universities of University Grants Committee (UGC) Funding Scheme for Teaching and Learning Related Proposals (2016-19 Triennium) to share their projects, with topics covered ranging from effective implementation of the flipped classroom approach in Hong Kong higher education, applying virtual reality technology for building students’ risk awareness and knowledge of environmental hazards, to teaching for innovation, among others.
A presentation ceremony of Students’ ePortfolio Award was also held at the event to commend 50 Judges’ List Awardees, six Merit Awardees and four Outstanding Awardees.
Prior to The Conference Day, the Festival created 16 observation classes, 31 videos and 6 poster boards, supported by all Faculties, Departments and the Graduate School of EdUHK.
