2023 Student Fair – EdUHK Lunar New Year Fair

As part of its ongoing effort to promote entrepreneurial and innovative spirit among students, The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) concluded today (15 January) its two-day ‘2023 Student Fair – EdUHK Lunar New Year Fair’ at PMQ in Central.

The 2023 Student Fair was organised by the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Education Unit (EIEU) of the EdUHK Library, sponsored by Pat Chun International Limited and supported by St. James' Settlement. It featured over 40 stalls run by EdUHK students and alumni, as well as students from five invited schools: Chiu Chow Association Secondary School, Concordia Lutheran School, Sheng Kung Hui Tsang Shiu Tim Secondary School, EdUHK Early Childhood Learning Center and EdUHK Jockey Club Primary School.

Among the array of items on offer were ceramics, craft ornaments, tie-dye artworks, handmade jewellery, eco-friendly products and coffee items. Some of the handicrafts available for sale at the fair were designed and made by artists with special educational needs .

Addressing the event, EdUHK President Professor Stephen Cheung Yan-leung said, “This is the University’s first physical Lunar New Year Fair since the outbreak of the pandemic. It not only gives participating students and alumni a taste of entrepreneurship, but also nurtures their entrepreneurial and innovative minds through experiential learning.”

Dedicated to promoting Chinese culture and values, the University also invited renowned masters in Chinese arts to conduct workshops and give talks at the fair, with the support from Pat Chun International Limited. They included Mr Pun Ping-hung, Calligrapher; Mr Cheung Shing-hung, Ceramic Sculptor and Calligrapher; Ms Joyce Chan, National Senior Tea Artist & National Senior Tea Appraiser; Ms Sun Hong, President of the Hong Kong Chinese Découpage Culture and Art Association; and Mr Tang Siu-hung, Vice President of Hong Kong Calligraphers’ Association.

While serving as a platform to equip students with first-hand experience in entrepreneurship and marketing management-related skills, the fair also enabled them to practise corporate social responsibility by donating 10% of the total net profit to a charitable organisation of their choice.
