The reform of Chinese History Education: Challenges of Taiwan and Hong Kong and Macao SAR
You or your representatives are cordially invited to cover The reform of Chinese History Education: Challenges of Taiwan and Hong Kong and Macao SAR, a seminar co-organised by the Centre for Greater China Studies and the Resource Centre for Interdisciplinary and Liberal Studies at The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK), and the Division of Social Sciences at the Community College of City University on 26 November 2016 (Saturday).
In recent years, Hong Kong society has become increasingly concerned about Chinese history education in schools. Some people are concerned about youth being anti-establishment because they do not know enough about Chinese history, which has given rise to the demand to reform the Chinese History curriculum. Others are equally worried about the shadow of political influence in education. What is the relevant experience in Macao, as another SAR, that Hong Kong can reflect on? How could the relevant experience in Taiwan be understood?
Speaking at the seminar will be Dr Choi Chi-u, Former Principal at the Escola Catolica Estrela do Mar in Macao; Dr David Kang Jong-hyuk, Assistant Professor at the Department of Literature and Cultural Studies, EdUHK; and Mr Hui Hon-wing, Teaching Fellow at the Department of Education Policy and Leadership, EdUHK. Dr Benson Wong Wai-kwok, Assistant Professor at the Department of Government and International Studies, Hong Kong Baptist University, will respond to their sharing.
