EdUHK Launches Jockey Club Sports Empowering Programme
You are cordially invited to cover the kick-off ceremony on 4 March (Saturday) of the Jockey Club Sports Empowering Programme - the city’s first large-scale sports coaching programme integrating character education - which is funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust and organised by The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) with the support of five partner sports organisations.
To cultivate a conducive sports environment for young people, the Jockey Club Sports Empowering Programme has adopted an “Empowering Coaching™” theory from the University of Birmingham. Apart from enhancing students’ skills and performance, the programme aims to help coaches understand their students’ psychological needs, and develop empowering and enjoyable strategies to motivate them. It has trained a batch of tutors regarding the empowering principles, and online training courses are also offered to over 5,000 sports practitioners, educators and parents.
Attending the ceremony will be EdUHK President Professor Stephen Cheung Yan-leung, Acting Head of the Department of Health and Physical Education Dr Andy Tse Choi-yeung, Chief Curriculum Development Officer of the Education Bureau Curriculum and Quality Assurance Branch Ms Annie Wong Hing-yee, Executive Manager of Charities (Sports and Culture) of The Hong Kong Jockey Club Ms Donna Tang, Legislative Council Member Hon Vincent Cheng Wing-shun, and Manager of the Hong Kong Athletes Career and Education Programme Mr Man Yue-hin.
On the same occasion, the EdUHK team will also present a survey on the effectiveness of empowering coaching, at which sports coaches from partner organisations including Mr Leung Kwok-shing, Founder of the Hoops for Hope Basketball; and Mr Ahmed Khan, Founder of Action Sports Foundation will share their experiences.
