EdUHK Integrates Coding with Subject Knowledge to Enhance Learning Effectiveness
Supported by the Quality Education Fund, The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) and the Hong Kong Catholic Education Office have launched three sets of teaching materials, integrating computational thinking (CT) into English Language, Mathematics, and General Studies curricula. They enable students to learn core subject knowledge while acquiring coding skills.
The selected curriculum components were “direction” in English language (Primary 4), “electricity and circuits” in General Studies (Primary 5) and “prime and composite numbers” in Mathematics (Primary 6).Over 20 primary schools of the Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong adopted the teaching materials, with pre- and post-tests finding that these resources were effective in improving students’ subject knowledge and enhancing their interests in CT.
You or your representatives are cordially invited to cover an online seminar on 17 January (Monday), at which frontline teachers will share their experience and insights into using the new materials. Also attending the seminar will be Professor Kong Siu-cheung, Director of Centre for Learning, Teaching and Technology and Professor of the Department of Mathematics and Information Technology at EdUHK; and Mr Julian Yip Kai-kwan, Assistant to the Episcopal Delegate for Education of the Hong Kong Catholic Education Office.
