Prior to joining EdUHK, Professor Timothy Chan Wai-keung was Professor at the Department of Chinese Language and Literature, Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), where he joined in 2006. Before then, he worked in overseas institutions including the University of Sydney, Australia (2001–2007) and The Ohio State University, USA (1999–2000). He received his Doctoral Degree in Comparative Literature from the University of Colorado, Boulder, USA, a master’s degree in Chinese Language and Literature from Peking University, China, and a bachelor’s degree in Chinese Language and Literature from Ji’nan University, China. Professor Chan has ample experience in teaching, curriculum and programme development for Chinese literature, culture and language subjects. He is an active researcher with an impressive record in winning four General Research Fund (GRF) Grants of the Research Grants Council (RGC) as Principal Investigator and one Significant Project of the National Social Science Foundation as Co-Investigator over the past 10 years. Professor Chan has been a member of the Humanities and Social Sciences Panel at the RGC since 2016. His networks and collaborations with non-local institutions are extensive and diverse, encompassing prestigious institutions from Mainland China, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Europe, the United States, and Australia. These networks and collaborations have fostered research partnerships, academic exchange, and sharing expertise. As Vice President of the American Oriental Society (Western Branch), Professor Chan plays a significant role in the management of the society as well as other interactions with the global research community.
